Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association (HKVCA) Writing Contest
Submit a piece of writing, 500-1000 words which honours the brave Canadians who fought to defend Hong Kong in the Second World War. Piece of writing can be any form (diary entries, reports, essays, letters, poem etc.)
Five selected portraits will be showcased on the HKVCA website (www.hkvca.ca) and
students are to use the website to research information on their selected veteran before
writing their submission.
Deadline: May 23rd, 2014
Prize: Grade 9-10 - First prize $150; Second prize $75
Grade 11-12 - First prize $200; Second prize $100

The Optimist Club of Barrie Essay Contest
Write an essay on the topic of "How Dreams Lead to Success," which is a minimum of 700 words and a maximum of 800 words.
Open to all students under the age of 19.
Prize: at club level - a medallion
at district level - winner receives a $2500 post-secondary scholarship
